For the last few years I have prepared a quantity of bare-root seedlings for my future forest bonsai classes.  I carefully evaluate the current crop availability for a wide range of sizes and species for bonsai from the field growers.  

Seedlings are an inexpensive way to obtain plants for bonsai. They are excellent for bonsai classes and workshops or just for playing around.  Each seedling bundle contains three or four different sizes of seedlings.

Our bare-root seedlings are dormant, healthy, and are also suitable for growing-on to larger sizes.

Forest bonsai can be easily created from bare-root seedlings because they have minimal branching.  Because the root systems are small and lack soil they can be placed closer together than potted specimens.  Please note: all seedlings are field-grown one to four year old bare-root plants. Many do not have an abundance of fibrous roots or twigs and should be overpotted so they can be easily developed during the first few  growing seasons.

Once bare-root shipping is no longer safe, these trees will be potted up and only available as potted material, typically in  one or two gallon containers.
